Teach Leave It
There is one important thing about this technique: When she asks this dog to leave the treat, she gives him something in exchange, NEVER the same treat. For most dogs, when we ask them to leave something, it's often something that we don't want them to have - a chicken bone on the side of the street, a dropped pill, a piece of paper, your underwear...
Offer a second treat of equal or better value to the treat you ask the dog to leave. If after several trials your pup isn't getting this exercise, that's ok - there are other things that people can put in place to help a dog leave it, and that's when you should contact a professional trainer that specializes in Positive Reinforcement Techniques to assist.
