SKUNK!

My sister called at 7am in a panic. Her Brittney Spaniel, Rusty, got out last night. He went nose up a skunk's tail pipe, and took a direct hit to the face and body.

If your dog is the victim of skunk spray, then there is a quick solution for you, by using 3 ingredients that you have around your house that will get rid of the skunk scent in your clothes, skin, and pet.

What you'll need:
-Hydrogen Peroxide
-Baking Soda
-Dish Soap

Veterniarians recommend you use 1 teaspoon of the dishsoap, 1 quart of the peroxide, and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Wet the dog, lather the solution into the fur, let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse off.

This will dry out your dog's skin, so be sure to follow up with a doggy conditioner. I like to repeat this bath just to make sure, but generally speaking, this should take care of business for you.

A few things to keep in mind:
-If you have a short haircut on your dog pre-skunk, it's easier to get the smell out.
-Tomato, douches, beer and vinegar do NOT WORK. (Don't believe me? Check out Mythbusters)
-There is a commercial product called Skunk Off that works ok, but again, Mythbusters checked this out, and the home-made remedy actually worked better.

Skunks aren't fun, but they are in season and it's better to be prepared.
